Esri UC BackChannel

Description:

In the run up to the 2010 Esri User Conference, we started thinking about alternative marketing ideas, and hit upon the idea of a mobile "BackChannel" application that provided another level of interaction for the attendees.

The core idea of the application was to encourage participation - this was done by assigning points to various activities, and then having a leader board. The prizes scaled with the number of people participating, and the number of points gathered.

Photo Safari

Essentially a scavenger hunt to collect photos of yourself with various speakers, Esri staffers and other geo-personalities, this was definitely the most used part of the app. Conference attendees could use their smart phones to take the photos and upload them to be awarded points.

Overall, this was a really fun participatory application and we are planning something new for the 2011 user conference.
