MARC Emergency Response Portal
Description:
The Kansas City-based Mid-America Regional Council retained DTS to create a web-based mapping application for use within Emergency Operation Centers (EOCs) as well as at other locations assisting in disaster events within the MARC region.
Users of this application employ it primarily for their mapping and monitoring needs during and after events, but the application will also support pre-disaster planning and simulation exercises.
To achieve out client’s objectives, DTS developed a data cataloging feature that allowed the system to organize the vast amounts of data coming in from several different sources.
Once the data was digested, aggregated and/or converted, the next steps were to design a retrieval system along with a tracking./notification function allowing user to be notified with datasets were added or changed. Ultimately the data would be used to populated the resulting web-mapping application.
The web-mapping application was unique in that is was simple enough for users with little or no GIS experience to utilize as well as providing analytic and technical GIS data and information for the most sophisticated of users.
Along with the applications ease of use, DTS designed in security features to accommodate the sensitivity of the data housed within the application, flexibility/scalability allowing MARC programmers to maintain and expand the application, and the ability to ingest data in a multitude of formats and schemas.
